The Dark Knight Sells 600,000 Copies on First Day

The Warner Bros release, The Dark Knight, sold approximately 600,000 copies in Canada, the US, and the UK when it hit shelves this past Tuesday. Sales are expected to pass the 1 million mark this Saturday. These numbers far exceed the initial projections.

The previous record for first day sales was 250,000 copies and was held by Iron Man.

Kevin Tsujihara, the president of Warner Brothers Home Entertainment sees this as a great indication of the bright future and market acceptance that will be enjoyed by the Blu-ray format, saying, "Numbers like these in this economic environment firmly establish Blu-ray as where consumers are headed."
