Blu-christmas?

With a recent study showing that, following the recent economic downturn, 47% of holiday shoppers have plans to spend less than usual this Christmas, will Blu-ray be able to capture the market and take the lead over the DVD format? Personally, I doubt it; for consumers who have clearly stated that they plan to spend less, the cost of Blu-ray is still just too high, a problem that is only compounded by the fact that most people simply don't perceive the difference in quality between Blu-ray and DVD to be worth buying all of the compatible hardware necessary to make the switch.
While it is unfortunate that Blu-ray's first Christmas as the undisputed king of the high definition format had to come at such a bad time, they are certain to enjoy at least a small percentage increase in sales.
